LAGNADA

LAGNADA TO AG MARINA 15th September 2017

Our first walk of the autumn, saw seven of us head off for the village of Lagnada. Another warm and sunny day, so an early start to beat the midday sun. This was a linear walk to see an amazing church built in to a cave. The walk took the best part of 3 hours and at first followed the kalderimi from Lagnada to Ag Nikon. At the point where the path crosses the Lagada gorge we turned off and head down the gorge towards Trachilla. About halfway down you come across the church of Aghios Marina built in to a cave and standing above the floor of the gorge, simply stunning. Its a pity the pictures  cannot do it justice. We followed the same route back to Lagnada and a lite lunch was taken at the kafenion in the village.

KASTANIA WALK

NEOHORI TO KASTANIA FRIDAY 11TH NOV 2016

This was just one of those walks that comes about a few friends meeting and deciding to go if the weather is good. A big thank you to Richard Robinson for organizing and leading the walk.

On a beautiful sunny Friday we met at Richard's house for a walk up the kalderimi to Kastania. Although there were only 4 of us it was a really nice walk up the track from Gnatza to Kastania only getting lost once. For lunch we were joined by Carol, in the square at Kastania, a few greek dishes and a beer or two. The walk back although downhill took a bit longer as most of the tracks we used were overgrown. But eventually we did arrive back at Richard's house before sundown. Enjoy the pictures below.

PROASTIO CIRCULAR

PROASTIO CIRCULAR WALK 14TH OCT 2015

With the sun beating down on our heads we set off for the beautiful village of Proastio. We were met in the village by local Big Mike and his dog Whoopi. So 8 people and one dog set off on a circular walk which would last about 3 hours. We climbed out of the village to admire some stunning views across the Messinian Gulf. Having then crossed the Exohori road we followed an old mule trail towards Petrovouni. Before arriving we took a left turn and walked through orchid valley before arriving back in Proastio for lunch at Voula's taverna. Thank you to my wife Carol for helping me out with pictures as I forgot my camera.

PIGI and PLATSA

PIGI and PLATSA 7TH OCTOBER 2015

Todays walk saw 12 of us climb from Pantazee beach up to the mountain villages of Pigi and Platsa. It was another fantastic day but on the warm side. The weather here in the Western Mani is still in the high 20's. Several stops were made on the climb to the first village of Pigi, to admire the view and a refreshing drink of cool water. At Pigi we took a longer break whilst sat under the shade of the trees near the church. Before we made the final climb to the highest point of todays walk in Platsa. A well deserved beer break was then taken at Yorgios kafenion. Then a leisurely descent via Kotroni and Aghios Dimitrios for lunch at Voulimneas Tavern on Pantazee beach.
